Use Google News & Reddit to Generate Blog Content That Ranks

If you're stuck on what to write about, you're not alone. Coming up with fresh blog content week after week can be draining—especially if you're trying to stay relevant and engaging.

The good news? You don’t have to pull topics out of thin air. Platforms like Google News and Reddit are packed with real-time conversations, current events, and trending topics that can spark content ideas instantly.

Use Google News to Tap Into What’s Current

Google News is a powerful tool for spotting trends in your niche or industry. Here's how to use it:

  1. Head over to Google News.
  2. Type in a topic you're interested in writing about.
  3. To get more precise results, put your search phrase in quotes.
    • For example: “life insurance” retired or “sustainable home goods”
  4. Click on Tools under the search bar.
  5. Use the filters to sort by Date or Relevance depending on what you’re looking for.
  6. Scan the headlines and choose an article that speaks to you or connects with your audience.
  7. Write a blog post that shares your perspective on the topic. You can reference or credit the original article if it makes sense—just avoid linking to direct competitors.

This process helps you stay relevant and gives you an easy starting point when you’re not sure what to write.

Use Reddit to Find Real Conversations

Reddit is a goldmine for blog content inspiration. It’s full of real people asking real questions, sharing experiences, and discussing everyday topics—all unfiltered.

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Go to Reddit and search for a topic related to your blog.
  2. Sort the results by Top, Hot, or New, depending on what you’re after.
  3. You can also filter by Past 24 hours, Past Week, or Past Month to find fresh discussions.
  4. Click into posts with strong engagement—lots of upvotes or comments are usually a good sign.
  5. Read the original post and the top comments.
  6. Use those insights to write your own blog post—offering your take, answering a question, or expanding on a conversation.
  7. If relevant, you can even quote or paraphrase some of the comments to strengthen your post.

Here’s a life insurance article inspired by a Reddit post. It builds on the original post and includes insights from several top comments (see screenshots).

The key here is to write content people are already interested in—not just what you think they might care about.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time you sit down to write. Google News shows you what’s being talked about in the media. Reddit shows you what’s being talked about in real life. Both are free, fast, and incredibly effective for sparking blog post ideas that actually resonate with people.

If you're looking to stay consistent with your content, start by listening before writing. The ideas are already out there—you just need to catch them.
